BEST TIME TO VISIT

Egypt is best visited between October and April, when temperatures are cooler but it’s still pleasantly warm across the country. This makes exploring the busy streets of Cairo, visiting the iconic Pyramids and exploring ancient Pharaonic tombs an absolute delight. However, don’t rule out summer just yet! From May to September, even though it’s hot, the high temperatures are complimented by dry air, omnipresent air conditioning, fewer visitors and lower prices. There also tends to be a nice breeze on the Nile, which makes the cruise more enjoyable.

TIPS

Currency

The Currency in Egypt is the 'Egyptian Rand'. Most of the banks are open from Sunday to Thursday; working hours being 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, though banks at the airports and the major entry ports are open 24 hours daily. Most of the major credit/debit cards, such as American Express, MasterCard, Visa, are widely accepted in various hotels, shops and ATMs. If at any point you run out of money, you still can get money wired to you from abroad.

Travel

When travelling, wear comfortable walking shoes; carry sunglasses, a swimsuit and sunscreen. We recommend carrying appropriate clothing for Egyptian temples. Please carry an international travel adapter for your phone/laptop/video camera. We also recommend you to carry a portable charger in case your phone runs out of charge. Please keep the print outs of the 'Bucketmylist' booking confirmation and your Passport handy.

Health

During your stay in Egypt, do not drink tap water. Since you are not used to it, it can cause stomach issues. We advise you stick to bottled water during your entire holiday.

Shopping

Khan El Khalili, one of Cairo's main attractions, is the perfect place to buy general gifts and souvenirs, but if you explore further you will find small workshops producing jewellery, glass and copper crafts from artisans. Away from the tourist bazaars in the main cities there is a local market in every district of Egypt. These local markets are interesting hubs where you can buy fruits, vegetables, cotton products, and many others for quite cheap.
